Bargaining Priorities and Issues

First Contract Bargaining Priorities 2024

Bennington College United Stands for the respect, dignity, and well-being of our faculty, staff, and campus safety. As we negotiate our first contract on our employment terms, conditions, rights, and responsibilities, we will prioritize fairness, equity, advancement, and success for the workers, students, and community of Bennington College.

  1. We will fight for compensation that is transparent, equitable, responsive to our economic realities, and recognizes the invaluable roles we play in the College’s mission.
  2. We will insist on employment structures and processes that respect workers’ expertise, experience, professionalism, and time, as such investment grows loyalty to the College, and most importantly, to our students.
  3. We will develop our employer-paid benefits to provide more affordable, comprehensive coverage and ready access to quality care from local providers.
  4. We will define the scope of employees’ work with accuracy and ensure it is distributed and evaluated with equity.
  5. We will uphold our professional autonomy and integrity, protecting not only our own academic freedom but that of our students and the College itself.
  6. We will hold the College accountable for analyzing infrastructure and impact in forming and pursuing strategic goals.
  7. We will demand administrative decisions be directly informed by worker input and clearly and openly communicated to the college community in a timely manner.
